Lyrics

  ORIGINAL  STORIES  AND  POEMS

(v1)

She puts on her makeup, fixes her hair

Checks in the mirror, whispers a prayer

Trusts the good lord that he’ll be safe and warm

One more day brings him closer to home

Fork on the left, knife on the right

Settings for two in the soft candlelight

One chair is empty, one meal grows cold

She waits hesitating at the threshold

(c1)

You may think she’s crazy, lying to herself

Those uniformed men at her door, they can go to hell

As long as she don’t know

She don’t have to let go

(v2)

She loves her country but she loves him more

Honor and duty called him off to war

Half way ‘round the world he cried out her name

No response came

(c2)

You may think she’s crazy, lying to herself

That letter from the president has got the wrong address

As long as she don’t know

She don’t have to let go

(b)

Love keeps her strong

Though she may wait forever

She will hold on

(c3)

You may think she’s crazy, lying to herself

That gold star from the government belongs to someone else

As long as she don’t know

She don’t have to let go

(v1)

Our reign it seemed forever

The road was paved with gold

And we walked it together

When we were kings

The music then was sweeter

Notes danced upon the air

From every woofer and each tweeter

When we were kings

(c1)

When we were kings, campfire smoke against the stars

When we were kings, tunes blasting in our cars

Tomorrow always seemed, so far

And victory was ours, when we were kings

(v2)

Pooling all our money

For gasoline and cigarettes

Go find ourselves some honeys

When we were kings

With hair down past our shoulders

And dreams of Rock and Roll

Oh we were so much bolder

When we were kings

(c2)

When we were kings, campfire smoke against the stars

When we were kings, strumming our guitars

Tomorrow always seemed, so far

And victory was ours, when we were kings

(b)

Nothing lasts forever

And no matter how you try

To hold onto a moment

The moment passes by

(v5)

We lived life to the limit

Everything was just a game

And we played to win it

When we were kings

(c3)

When we were kings, campfire smoke against the stars

When we were kings, the rules we’d disregard

Tomorrow always seemed, so far

And victory was ours, when we were kings

(c4)

When we were kings, campfire smoke against the stars

When we were kings, nothing left a scar

Tomorrow always seemed, so far

And victory was ours, when we were kings

(v1)

Everything is wrecked, more than you’d expect

Robbed you of your thunder

In a sneak attack, it knocked you on your back

Took you by surprise

(c1)

Sometime you gotta have the rain

Just let it wash away your pain

Then you can start over again

Sometime you gotta have the rain

(v2)

Each day more bad news, bombs you can’t defuse

About to blow your cover

Struggling to emote, words stuck in your throat

Twisting up your tongue

(c2)

Sometime you gotta have the rain

Just let it wash away your pain

Remember nothing stays the same

Sometime you gotta have the rain

(b)

I don’t mean to spoil the ending

But everything is gonna be alright

If this feels hard comprehending

Why don’t you just sleep on it tonight

(v3)

When all hope seems lost, your last coin got tossed

Landed in the gutter

Hold your head up high, give it one more try

You can rise above

(c3)

Sometime you gotta have the rain

Just let it wash away your pain

I hope you join in my refrain

Sometime you gotta have the rain

(v1)

I will wait, crossing the distance to you

My heart’s gate will remain open

We all make mistakes, that’s just what people do

It’s not too late to fix what’s been broken

(pc1)

All my life, all my life

I will wait for you

(c1)

Climbing our family tree, steps we take

Now and then, branches break

If you should fall, fall, fall on me

All my life, I will wait

(v2)

Things we said, caught in the moment’s heat

Two hard heads uncompromising

We both sped the wrong way down a one way street

Signs misread with temperatures rising

(pc1)

All my life, all my life

I will wait for you

(c1)

Climbing our family tree, steps we take

Now and then, branches break

If you should fall, fall, fall on me

All my life, I will wait

I Will Wait

(v1)

A bee comes buzzing by

My half opened eye

And lands upon my nose

Does he think I’m a flower?

I haven’t yet showered

And I can’t smell much like a rose

(pc1)

First thing this morning

And without a warning

I wish I were back in bed

Got this dreadful circumstance instead

(c1)

Jump up from my lazy chair

Arms waiving wildly in the air

You sip your Irish tea

Laughing at a sleepy-headed me

(v2)

Ants uninvited

And you’re delighted

On our picnic date

A crumb or two to steal

Brings new friends to our meal

And not a moment too late

(pc2)

The afternoon sunshine

A comfortable recline

I wish they would retreat

Stop crawling on my feet

(c2)

The blanket is my undoing

In the tangled mess ensuing

You sip your lemonade

Laughing at the mess I’ve made

(b)

Oh oh woe woe is me

Guess I’ll always be your fool

(v3)

Catching fireflies in a jar

I wonder where you are

Between the blinks

Here in the afterglow

Of our private fireworks show

It makes me think

(pc3)

This moonless summer night

Couldn’t be more right

Alone just you and me (then)

I walk into a tree

(c3)

Trying to regain my wits

After being bashed to bits

You sip your lime and ale

Laughing as my consciousness fails

(outro)

You caught me laughing at myself again

I opened my mouth and my foot went in

This role of fool fits me like a glove

Tripped over my tongue and I fell in love

Just a fool in love

Who turned out the lights

Everything is out of sight

Thought I was doin’ alright

Evidently not tonight

Everything’s gonna be alright

Everything’s gonna be alright

Everything’s gonna be alright

Everything’s gonna be alright

(v1)

She’s not afraid to be alone

She can make it on her own

She’s a real woman

She is as tough as any man

And she doesn’t give a damn

She’s a real woman

She will give more than she takes

Even when her heart it breaks

She’s a real woman

(c1)

She takes me as I am

And understands

She makes me want to become a better man

(v2)

She’s the honey in my tea

And she’s oh so sweet on me

She’s a real woman

Where she ends and I begin

My fingers on her skin

She’s a real woman

Tracing each exquisite curve

She’s so much more than I deserve

She’s a real woman

(c2)

She takes me as I am

And understands

She makes me want to become a better man

(v3)

When the world becomes too loud

She’s my sun above the clouds

She’s a real woman

(v1)

Talking in my sleep

There’s a secret I must keep

From mumbling out my head

You’re sleeping like a log

As I trip over the dog

Tumbling out of bed

(c2)

Not long ago I was lonely, only

Another day to get through

I had a dream you were my girl, my world

When I awoke it was true

(v2)

One more final touch

I’ve been wanting this so much

Now it’s time for your surprise

Everything’s in place

I can’t wait to see your face

When you open up your eyes

(c2)

I fell in love and it just took one look

To set my heart off on a race

The touch of your hand, it was pounding, sounding

Never again to change pace

(v3)

Been here for three hours

With the champagne and the flowers

And it’s really getting late

Still down on one knee

But I really gotta pee

And I don’t think it can wait

(c3)

Wouldn’t you know as I get up you wake up

And take it all in with a smile

With tears in your eyes you say yes, I guess

You’ll stick around for a while

Here’s a secret we won't keep

Gonna tell the whole wide world

(v1)

We waited for so long

Through background checks and interviews

Turning every stone

Our application in review

Then we got the call

Time to make your debut

(pc1)

Welcome home

Here you’ll always be loved and safe and warm

Right where you belong

(c1)

Fly away show the world who you are (when you)

Fly away in a flash everything has changed

Fly away you belong to the stars

All the world will see when you fly away

(v2)

Listening to your heart

A funny man in a white coat

His stethoscope is cold

While he distracts you with a joke

Then he swallows hard

Past a lump in his throat

(pc2)

Something’s wrong

That encouraging smile he had is gone

Tells us to be strong

(c2)

Fly away show the world who you are (when you)

Fly away in a flash everything has changed

Fly away you belong to the stars

All the world will see when you fly away

(v3)

You wanted to join in

But my faith wasn’t ready yet

People can be cruel

Cut you deep with no regret

Then you hit the ground

And you were off like a jet

(pc3)

You won with ease

Running faster than lightning on the breeze

Then even I believed

(c3)

Fly away show the world who you are (when you)

Fly away in a flash everything has changed

Fly away you belong to the stars

All the world will see when you fly away

(v1)

Everyday was wonderful underneath the sun

Comfort, warmth, security, a yard where I could run

A hand upon my wagging butt, a scratch behind my ear

Shaking in the bathtub sending soap suds everywhere

Children that I played with and a family I adored

These memories are all that’s left of the life I had before

(c1)

Rescue me, I’m so scared and all alone

Rescue me, everyone I love is gone

Rescue me, I won’t make it on my own

Rescue me, rescue me, rescue me, won’t you please

(v2)

Now my days and nights are spent confused and gripped with fear

Where is everyone I love, the friends I hold so dear

Helplessly confined behind steel bars and concrete walls

And deafened by the echoes of the cries from other stalls

(c2)

Rescue me, I’m so scared and all alone

Rescue me, everyone I love is gone

Rescue me, I won’t make it on my own

Rescue me, rescue me, rescue me, won’t you please

(b)

I will be a good boy, I’ll be brave and true

And even when I’m old and grey, I’ll be here for you

When your heart gets broken, I’ll lick away your tears

We could share a lifetime, measured in dog years

(v3)

Just when I had come to terms in accepting my fate

The face that looks down at me now opens up the gate

Finally I recognize the pack I call my own

In my heart I know that they have come to take me home

(c3)

Rescue me, I don’t want to be alone

Rescue me, everyone I love is gone

Rescue me, I won’t make it on my own

Rescue me, rescue me, won’t you please

Rescue Me

(v1)

Come lay me down

Beside your garden

Come lay me down

Carry me home

Tend now your own

Seeds you have planted

Soon they’ll be grown

And take what they’ve learned

(c1)

Anything you want

I’d give

Lucky to have shared

This life that we lived

(v2)

Remember me

When you’re downhearted

Seasons will change

But I love you still

(c2)

Everything I asked

You gave

Grateful to have been

The life that you saved

(v3)

Don’t shed a tear

When you think of me

I’m still right here

Inside your heart

(v1)

Time has earned her aches and pains and on her face deep grooves

Arthritis and cataracts impede her every move

I marvel at the effort and the pain she must endure

Certainly it’s easier to buy these at the store

(v2)

One by one she reaches up to pick a single gem

Puts it in the basket gently then goes up again

“This is how you make it” she says “and true for everyone”

“We all get much sweeter when we’re ripened by the sun”

(b)

Mason jars and sealing wax stacked up on the shelf

Lemon juice and sugar and the grapes she grew herself

We didn’t have much money but we wanted nothing more

Long after the jam was gone my grandma’s love endured

(v3)

Still my fondest memory from back when I was young

The essence of that recipe still lingers on my tongue

Though grandma's gone so many years she’s always on my mind

As is the joy she brought to me one grape at a time

(v1)

Nestled in my burrow deep

Where I so happily asleep

Dreamed of grass and buttercup

Until they skyward raised me up

(v2)

I’d barely gotten out a yawn

When I observed upon the lawn

A mass of crazed humanity

Devoid of any sanity

(v3)

So now I’m pressed to tell the fate

Of all the frozen here that wait

Will there be an early spring

Or six more weeks of winter’s sting

(c1)

Oooooh there’s a buzz in Punxsutawney

Oooooh everybody’s here to see

Oooooh this here varmint tell the weather

Oooooh at the woodchuck jubilee

(v4)

Another year another fete

Another ruse I would repeat

But my thoughts set on something more

A way to find an open door

(v5)

The forty thousand I surveyed

Here for another Groundhog Day

An answer then came into view

And in me hope it did renew

(v6)

So I bit my handler’s finger tip

Which caused him to relax his grip

And in that instant I was loose

A chance I did put to good use

(c2)

Oooooh there’s a buzz in Punxsutawney

Oooooh everybody’s gonna see

Oooooh there’s a big change in the weather

Oooooh it’s a marmot mutiny

(v7)

From podium to stage below

And then onto the icy and snow

Fast as my legs could carry me

Straight into their frivolity

(v8)

There then was a change of mood

In the drunken multitude

They dropped their drinks they turned and run

Far from the chaos I’d begun

(v9)

Then finally my path was clear

The freedom that I sought appeared

I made it out and out I’ll stay

Far from their happy groundhog day

(c3)

Oooooh there’s a buzz in Punxsutawney

Oooooh there’s a rodent on the run

Oooooh and he’s looking pretty crazy

Oooooh everything has come undone

Oooooh there’s a buzz in Punxsutawney

Oooooh Gobblers Knob in disarray

Oooooh how’re they gonna tell the weather

Oooooh now that Phil has run away

(v1)

Gather ‘round you players there’s a story I must tell

About that fateful day I learned my lesson all too well

Just in case you too find yourself caught up in her spell

Remember these words and then run like hell

(v2)

Well I didn’t know her name and I really didn’t care

‘Cause her body was just smoking and her face was oh so fair

And I’d a feeling she might like her meat a little rare

Assuming we might have some time to share

(v3)

Now you know there’s a difference between lonely and alone

And up until then I was happy with what I had known

But she looked down and whispered ‘baby let me take you home’

That’s when I knew that I was too far gone

(v4)

Her perfume was intoxicating dancing on the air

Giving her a slight advantage some might think unfair

And me the courage to do things I’d otherwise not dare

And everything just went downhill from there

(v5)

The whiskey worked its magic and the lights began to fade

Too late the hour to regret the choice that I had made

A quick assessment of the risks the benefits outweighed

Then in I jumped as sanity decayed

(v6)

Now somewhere between passion and perversion there’s a place

Where joy and pain together occupy a fragile space

And wrestle for control of the expression on your face

While all your good intentions get misplaced

(v7)

Well I won’t forget that night and everything I learned

Playing with that fire that has left me scared and burned

Yet I might give up every single dollar that I’ve earned

If I could just take another turn

(v1)

Another Saturday just wasted

The cement dries and cracks my hands

I would rather be anywhere else

Than sweating here with my old man

He goes on about our family

How we all chip in and lend a hand

To me all just seemed so silly

I didn’t care to understand

(c1)

But I remember you

Before time took its cruel toll

The lessons that you tried to teach

Each more precious now than gold

But then I was young and foolish

I didn’t want your hand to hold

Now I can only pray

I somehow find my way

While I remember you

(v2)

Later on I saw more clearly

I didn’t look at you the same

I recognized each precious lesson

And the joy our work became

Each moment was treasure

Each challenge was a game

You showed me how to be a man

And proudly share your name

(c2)

Oh I remember you

In the sawdust and the dirt

Cutting wood and swinging a hammer

Bite you lip when you got hurt

Sweat dripping from your forehead

Blood stains your shirt

You never stopped or compromised

Trading you dreams so I’d have mine

Yes I remember you

(c3)

Oh I’ll remember you

Long after you’re gone

And I will give for my family

What you gave for yours

So when my days are over

And an end comes to this song

I’ll grab my tools and once again

Another project we’ll begin

Yes I remember you

You taught me how to reach the sky

I wipe these teardrops from my eyes

While I remember you

What I would give for one more day

So I wouldn’t have to say

That I remember you

(v1)

50 years plus 5 have come and gone

Since I first heard the Beatles sing their songs

I remember clear as day

Every note they played

And the melodies that made me sing along

(v2)

Music traveling at the speed of light

To homes across America that night

Adjust the rabbit ears

Until the static clears

Ed Sullivan live on our black and white

(c1)

It caught me by surprise

Right before my ears and eyes

The Fabulous Four played

The soundtrack for my days

The soundtrack for my days

(v3)

We sat cross-legged on the braided rug

Grandma brought hot chocolate and a hug

The family gathered ‘round

To hear that brand new sound

The harmonies that hooked me like a drug

(v4)

Now the music that became my siren’s call

Is a poster on my daughter’s bedroom wall

And the lads that so inspired

Are mutually admired

Liverpool’s Ringo, George, John and Paul

(v1)

When I close my eyes, you’re the dream that I’m dreaming

As I plan my day, you’re the scheme that I’m scheming

Whisper in your ear, you know all my secrets

Look into my eyes you’re all that I see

(v2)

When I rack my brain, you’re the thought that I’m thinking

I try to explain, you’re the words that I’m speaking

Everybody else, doesn’t seem to notice

But everywhere I look you’re all that I see

(c1)

And I would

Scale the face of Everest

Swim across the Rio Grand

Trek barefoot the Sahara

For one touch of your hand

The day I first set eyes on you

I fell down upon my knees

Thanked the good Lord up above

For making you for me

(v3)

On my bended knee, you’re the prayer that I’m praying

Every melody, you’re the tune that I’m playing

Listen to my heart, you’re the rhythm beating

When I look inside you’re all that I see

(c2)

And I would

Dodge a hail of bullets

Look a twister in the eye

Rope-a-dope with Cassius Clay

To have you by my side

Barter with the devil

Hear the Siren’s song unbound

Cure the world of all its ills

To hold the love I’ve found

(outro)

The day I first set eyes on you

I knew this was meant to be

So darling, save the last dance for me

(v1)

Lord have mercy how time flies

Life traversed me right before my very eyes

Looking back now it’s all clear

All that happened is what it took to get me here

Fight!

(c1)

They tried to knock me down

Tried to beat me up

But they could never win

‘Cause I will never stop

(v2)

Odds against you, there’s no way

Never happen, these are the words I heard them say

Don’t be stupid, clear your head

Stop your dreaming, and get a real job instead

Fight!

(c2)

They tried to knock me down

Tried to beat me up

But they could never win

‘Cause I will never stop

(v3)

Monday morning rise and shine

Big world waiting it’s time to go and make it mine

You get just one chance when fortune calls

Risk worth taking, I’m gonna grab it by the balls

Fight!

(c3)

Don’t let them knock you down

Don’t let them beat you up

Remember they won’t quit

So don’t you ever stop

(v1)

Here we go again Christmastime, goodwill, happiness, and cheer

Got no shopping done, it’s Christmas Eve, I put it off again this year

(v2)

Waiting for the bell, 5 o’clock, anxious chomping at the bit

Just a minute more then I’m out. Goodbye work, I’m done, that’s it

(c1)

I have freedom at last, work’s in the past

Soon I’ll be home and decompressed

Just a few gifts for people I missed

And out of this Christmas mess

(v3)

Gridlock on the road, damn it all, challenging my mental state

Forecast didn’t show this snowfall, the mall locks its doors at eight

(c2)

Then the road becomes clear, laughter and tears

Erupt involuntarily

No more delay, driving my sleigh

And shouting out with glee

(v4)

Circling endlessly mall garage, so close but yet oh so far

Everything I need in one place, if I can just park my car

(c3)

And then what should appear but a spot so near

I can’t believe my wondering eyes

So let out a cheer, Happy New Year

Let’s buy some merchandise

(v5)

Finally made it in but not in time, only one thing I can do

Who’d have thought that I’d be that guy, cutting all the kids in the queue

(c4)

Santa looks quite surprised as I sit on his thigh

And tell him my long and dreadful tale

There will be toys for good girls and boys

But I’ll spend the night in jail

(outro)

I’m doing time in cell block nine

Next year I shop online

Handshakes and hugs from all the thugs

Hope my bed don’t have bugs

My cellmate’s a brute, he thinks I’m cute

In my orange jump suit

Christmas in jail I whimper and wail

Someone please post my bail

Somebody, anybody

One look, one smile

One offer, sit and talk awhile

One drink, one dance

One victim in this circumstance

(v2)

One promise, one lie

One question and one alibi

Two hearts on trial

One love lost and there’s no denial

(c1)

One woman, one man

One passion, one end

Two bodies, skin on skin

Three people, one sin

No changing

What’s been

One love, first sight

Two hearts lined-up in Cupid’s sights

No missing what you don’t know

Then Cupid draws his love sick bow

(v1)

In your perfume last night

My mirrored reflection

A reincarnation

Precise and deliberate

Your fragrant suspicion

Abruptly delivered

Forced in that moment

Only to the truth to subscribe

(v2)

In your perfume today

I found an asylum

Impenetrable

By labor or demon

The calm reassurance

Of things recollected

Of laughter and innocence

My spirit renewed and revived

(v3)

In your perfume just now

I drank it all in

The rush washing over me

Drowned in the memory

On your cunning aroma

A flood of distraction

Brought into this moment

Startling, intimate, mine

(v4)

Nothing was delicate

Nothing was courteous

Nothing was merciful

Now you remind me

I’m more than a gesture

More than a quality

Multidimensional

Only a lifetime ago

(c1)

I’ve seen just now

I’ve been just now

(b1)

15 tons of powder

Buried in the stone

Fear and aspiration

Remaining unknown

Fracturing the darkness

Came the slightest flame

The breath that brought you to me

Has blown it all away

(v1)

Underneath the spotlights I can hardly see the crowd

These skinny jeans are way to tight and those drums are way too loud

Fifteen minutes more and I’ll be calling it a show

Pack my gear and start my way back home

Lay my head down on my memory foam

(v2)

House lights on and there’s a girl I do not recognize

Five foot four with golden hair and sparkling blue eyes

As she makes her way toward me I hear her say ‘hello’

Says she’d really like to get to know

Maybe there’s someplace else we can go

(c1)

Oh I’m so mad

Oh I’m so mad she ran away

Oh I’m so mad she ran away with my guitar

(v3)

Morning comes too early when you’ve been awake all night

I searched for her everywhere but she was outta sight

I just ducked in the men’s room ‘fore we left to take a pee

That was all the time that girl would need

She grabbed my axe and exited with speed

(c2)

Oh I’m so mad

Oh I’m so mad she ran away

Oh I’m so mad she ran away with my guitar

(v4)

Now I’m saving all my dough to get back in the game

Sure I’ll get another one but it won’t be the same

She stole a little piece of me the night she ran away

Suckered me into her passion play

Anyway …

I guess that’s just the price I had to pay

(c3)

Oh I’m so mad

Oh I’m so mad she ran away

Oh I’m so mad she ran away with my guitar

Into the shower it’s getting late

Sometime tomorrow you’ll be back from your date

Out there it’s raining, out there it’s cold

Out there is something better so I’ve been told

(v2)

On time arrival waits at the door

One last adjustment as your feet hit the floor

Then it’s off for adventure with hardly a goodbye

I’m disregarded and left wondering why

(c1)

Sunday morning used to be

Nothing to do, just me and you, tenderly

The perfect love song redefined

When Sunday morning changed her mind

(v3)

Three in the morning I am standing alone

Stare out the window, wait by the phone

But I see no answer and I hear no call

Wish sleep would overtake me away from it all

(V4)

Sunday morning I am down on my knees

Blind to the warnings I was, deaf to your pleas

I retract every insult, I regret every crime

If we could just start over, if I could turn back time

(c2)

Sunday morning used to be

Nothing to do, just me and you, tenderly

The perfect love song redefined

When Sunday morning changed her mind

(v5)

Now it’s all burned to ashes like leaves on a fire

Call me a fool but don’t call me a liar

I’ve got this quart of whiskey and a loaded magazine

I know there is answer lying somewhere in between

Or it might just be gone

(v3)

C’mon everybody

It’s your turn to shine

To put off ‘till tomorrow

That would be a crime

(pc3)

Shake off that fear that’s telling you those lies

I know there’s nothing you can’t do

It’s all right here just open up your eyes

Waiting for you

Somehow as I passed the time my money all got spent

Spinning ‘round the room my paycheck races through my veins

(v1)

What’s that secret always creeping  up on you?

What’s that secret you’ll never tell?

Buried deep inside the blackness of your empty heart

Time to give them a little hell

(v2)

Simple pleasures never seem to get it right

Not while you’ve got a soul to sell

When the door is bolted and the curtains are drawn tight

Time to give them a little hell

(v3)

Little girl at home don’t know her daddy lied

Mommy hides it so very well

Someday when she learns the truth I hope you’re satisfied

Time to give them a little hell

Lose my balance and fall to the ground

Then you catch me I’m safe and sound

Lost my balance and fell to the ground

(v1)

Papa gave me everything and all that he asked for

To provide for those that follow just a little more

So speaking little English and filled with uncertainty

I take the first step towards my destiny

Of fear and hope and discovery

(v2)

All alone an ocean crossing is a frightening plan

But at 16 years in 1910 you call yourself a man

Clenched inside these trembling fists my worn security

The cross and beads of mama’s rosary

My fate now resting with my deity

(v3)

Love and reassurance grow more distant every day

Family and friends are now so very far away

In the distance stands a lady dressed in verdigris

And then the land of opportunity

With a promise of a new prosperity

(v4)

Anxious for an opportunity to ply my skills

And show America my back is as strong as my will

Ellis Isle’s the gateway and this ticket is the key

To carry out my fool proof strategy

A better life for our family

(v5)

Hands and voices raised on docks answer the foreman’s call

Work there for a few good men but not enough for all

Food and clothes and shelter are a great uncertainty

While labor comes so inconsistently

And rarer more are acts of charity

(v6)

Just a few short hours of sleep and then back in the fight

Lucky is a chance for me to work from dawn till night

Hardship will not compromise my dreams of what could be

Dreams are all the strength I’ll ever need

There’s a star above for every possibility

And this one I’m keeping just for me

This one I’m keeping just for me

This one I’m keeping for myself, yeah, yeah

This one I’m keeping just for me

This One I'm Keeping For Myself

Time will tell, right or wrong

The plans we made, come undone

A brand new day has just begun

We’ll find a way to carry on

(c1)

Yesterday you were mine

Yesterday you were mine

Yesterday, yesterday

(v2)

Time will tell, right or wrong

The love we had, once so strong

We walked the walk, we sang the song

And fooled ourselves for far too long

(c1)

Yesterday you were mine

Yesterday you were mine

Yesterday, yesterday

(b1)

Time don’t wait for me

I’ll just wait and see

(v3)

Time will tell, right or wrong

Heaven or hell, where to belong?

To fall behind, or tag along

Sound the retreat or battle on

(v1)

We are not mistaken

We see right through your lies

Our faith won’t be shaken

No matter how you try

We’re all created equal

This we hold true

Ain’t gonna be no sequel

We’ve had enough of you

(c1)

It’s time you step aside

Or get washed away by the turning tide

(v2)

The people have now spoken

Red, yellow, black and white

We’re going to take what’s broken

And make it right

We are joined together

Here we stand as one

It’s already better

And we have just begun

(c2)

It’s time you step aside

Or get washed away by the turning tide

(c3)

It’s time you said goodbye

Our freedom will never be denied

This time you must comply

Or get washed away by the turning tide

(v1)

Standing at the crossroads looking at the sun

A path in two directions but I can choose just one

Left takes me to heaven right will lead me home

I’ve waited for a lifetime like the one I’ve known

(v2)

A test for me to reach it a test for me to stay

A fear inside me growing as night consumes the day

I reach inside and muster the strength to face the fear

Regardless of what happens next I’ll be standing here

(c1)

While you’re looking back

Don’t overlook today

There’re promises ahead

But remember there’s good along the way

(v3)

Back over your shoulder happy memories fill the past

Friends, smiling faces, laughter, good times go so fast

Look a little closer at the details and you’ll find

Time was not so generous, it was not always kind

(v4)

The promise of tomorrow, the future seems so bright

Sorrow gone, problem solved so many wrongs turned right

But upon your arrival, though some of these be true

Another day’s challenges are waiting there for you

(c1)

While you’re looking back

Don’t overlook today

There’re promises ahead

But remember there’s good along the way

(v5)

Standing at the crossroads looking at the sun

A path in two directions but I can choose just one

Left takes me to heaven right will lead me home

But I’m not going nowhere man, I’m happy with the road I’m on.

(v1)

Some people are just rotten

For some that skill is learned

Believe they are entitled

To the things they never earned

(v2)

They take whatever suits them

And do it with a smile

Denying any damage

But knowing all the while

(c1)

Their greed the will not tire

Always feeding their selfish desire

Throw some more bodies on the fire

(v3)

The power is a poison

A lesson never learned

They fan the flames of madness

Stand back watch it burn

(v4)

Turn everything to ashes

To build the highest tower

While every day we’re closer

To the final hour

(c2)

Their greed the will not tire

Gluttons feeding their selfish desire

Throw some more bodies on the fire

(v1)

Heartbreak lie concealed

By joy that laughed and squealed

And raised hearts in wonder

With every passing day

There was something new to say

But heartbreak made no sound

(v2)

Heartbreak waved goodbye

Not understanding why

She had been abandoned

Trusting but afraid

The plans that we had made

As heartbreak walked away

(c1)

I can’t hold on

Oh no I can’t hold on

Oh no I can’t hold on

And I can’t hold you back

(b1)

Holding her so tightly as if I could stop time

Every star would twinkle and every phrase would rhyme

She would be my baby and I would be her dad

But time wins and all I can do is cherish what we had

(v3)

Heartbreak takes a turn

With so much more to learn

Before I’m ready

A solitary swing

This gentle heart takes wing

And heartbreak makes a friend

(v4)

Heartbreak stood steadfast

The day had come at last

To bind and to set free

Love had cast its spell

And so deeply she fell

That heartbreak won the day

(c2)

I can’t hold on

Oh no I can’t hold on

Oh no I can’t hold on

And I can’t hold you back

(v1)

You are my girl. I am the lucky one because I’ve got you

Between what we are and what we become, this much is true

If time should take us separate ways our hearts will find their way

Inside of me you stay, every day

(v2)

Watching you grow, each day more self-assured fills me inside

And in your smile I see the bond we have can’t be denied

There’s something quite amazing about the way you make me feel

A genuine appeal, forever real

(c1)

I’d been praying for love to rescue me

Tender arms, warm smiles and understanding (yeah)

And then I saw what I’d become

Suddenly I’m the lucky one

My eyes were opened wide to see

You looking back at me

Callie

(v3)

Now looking back, the measure of my life I’m satisfied

People I’ve loved, battles I’ve lost and won, tears that I’ve cried

And though I have a few regrets they’re easily ignored

(c2)

I’d been praying for love to rescue me

Tender arms, warm smiles and understanding (yeah)

And then I saw what I’d become

Suddenly I’m the lucky one

My eyes were opened wide to see

You looking back at me

(v1)

It was a Friday night and our time to raise some hell

Some guys we knew were playing down at the bar

The universe was groovy as far as we could tell

We surely weren’t expecting something bizarre

(pc1)

And that’s when it all went wrong

The band played their song

Then Gilly Martin got up to sing along

(c1)

Gilly we love ya but you can’t sing

Mariah Carey is not your thing

You might think that your voice sounds OK

I have to say

We’d rather hear Kanye

(v2)

The virtuoso with his Les Paul played some hot licks

And suddenly there was a god awful sound

All kinds of feedback and a whole bunch of pops and clicks

It was so terrible it made our heads pound

(pc2)

Gilly Martin was running sound

It sounded like a two cats being drowned

Security had to wrestle him to the ground

(c2)

Gilly we love ya but you can’t mix

We’d rather have our eyes poked with sticks

Than listen to your sonic assault

It’s all your fault

Please grind this to a halt

(v3)

The place was jumping as the party got underway

The crowd was digging it and  to groove

Then something happened and it scared all of them away

Gilly was on the dance floor busting a move

(pc3)

It was a sight to behold

If the truth be told

Gyrations from a fart so old

(c3)

Gilly we love ya but you can’t dance

Your Fred Astaire makes us piss our pants

There are some things that can’t be unseen

Laughing so hard

I just burst my spleen

(v1)

I’m gonna go downtown

The pavement I will pound

I’m wanna scream out loud, baby

Get your fine self home

(v2)

Been looking up and down

Not a trace to be found

Got my nose on the ground, baby

Get your bad self home

(c1)

Yeah yeah yeah

Baby’s going down

Yeah yeah yeah

(v3)

Around the world hearts break

Dreams of  the love you make

My love is yours to take, darling

Get your fine self home

(v4)

The way you strut and shake

It makes my poor heart ache

All night I’m wide awake, darling

Get your bad self home

(c2)

Yeah yeah yeah

Baby’s going down

Yeah yeah yeah

(v5)

One day I’ll make you mine

You’ll be my star I’ll shine

And for the rest of time, sugar

Get your fine self home

(V6)

I’m gonna go downtown

The pavement I will pound

I’m wanna scream out loud, baby

Get your fine self home

Yeah yeah yeah

(v1)

I love her, she quenches my desire

We get alone together, the spark becomes a fire

We avoid the mellow, and to right to hardcore

Friends ask me what I’m doing, but I don’t care no more

(c1)

Back again with another princess

Back again with another

Back again don’t give me no good girl

Back again that’s not what they’re for

(v2)

Mom and Daddy hate her, they call her little whore

I tell them I’m out jammin’, I’m bangin’ on her door

We bring our birth devices, but sometimes we forget

She says we must be married, Ha! She can just forget - it, because I’m

(c2)

Back again with another princess

Back again with another

Back again don’t give me no good girl

Back again that’s not what they’re for

(v3)

I’m running for tomorrow, they’re running right behind

He’s carrying a shotgun, he wants to blow my mind

But they can’t seem to get me, he took his shot and missed

I swore to God I wouldn’t, but I just can’t resist

(v1)

Well you’re the sweetest little girl I know

I know, I know

And that’s why I’ve got tell you so

You so, you so

(c1)

So when I tell you I love you it’s true

Nobody else could ever love you like I do

(v2)

Yeah I heard music when you said your name

Your name, your name

Now I ain’t ever gonna be the same

The same, the same

(c2)

So when I tell you I love you it’s true

Nobody else could ever love you like I do

(v3)

I’ve gotta find a way to make you see

You’ll see, you’ll see

That you’re the only girl there’ll ever be

For me, for me

Nobody else could ever love you like I do

(v1)

Have a seat, kick your shoes off stay a little while

Fill your glass, put your feet up give us all a smile

Tell us about some anecdote we just won’t believe

Make us laugh so very hard that we can hardly breathe

(v2)

Frequent outburst let me know exactly where you stand

In the crowd hilarity’s a tool at your command

Begging you to stop because it’s all that they can take

Laughing out so hard they’re crying and their stomachs ache

(v3)

Happiness seems so hard for the wise men to achieve

Yet for you a joyful heart exists so easily

The company of those you love is all that you ask for

And there it is, it’s really just that simple, nothing more

(c1)

Nothing’s getting in my way

As far as I can see

Sure I’ve got a hell to pay

but right now

Graceful rider hold on tight

Brace against the coming wave

Courage is your guiding light

Dignity the life you save

Bent on untying the knot

Question bone and blood and skin

Learning what is at the heart

Always coming from within

The road is hard

The road is long

My focus sharp

The line is drawn

(c1)

I’m not afraid

I’m not afraid

I’m not afraid

Liberation dressed in red

Freedom waiting at the end

Salvation lies in your bed

Take my hand eternal friend

The road is hard

I’m not afraid

I’m not afraid

I’m not afraid

The water deep

The current strong

My focus sharp

Where hope is gone

My heels are fixed

I’ll raised my fist

And carry on

(v1)

Living without you never crossed my mind

Living without you and the love so hard to find

Living without you the one I thought divine

Living without you and the world we left behind

(c1)

All that time we were together

Every time I went away

What we said would last forever

Now there’s nothing left to say

(v2)

Living without you treated me unkind

Living without as your tangled web unwinds

Living without you and your promises that bind

Living without you and the love that made blind

(c2)

All that time we were together

Every time I went away

What we said would last forever

How much more can one man take

(b1)

Think of all the things I sacrificed

Always I believed we’d be together

I could never keep you satisfied?

God how could love be so blind?

(v3)

Living without you never crossed my mind

Living without you and the love so hard to find

Living without you the one I thought divine

Living without you and the world we left behind

(c3)

What it takes to make you happy

I realize my deepest fears

There is man behind the woman

And a man behind the tears

Why me you ask yourself

Please choose someone else

On my knees with folded hands

Help me to understand

(c1)

Why wait any longer

My faith can’t be stronger

All the world to gain

My sins I do confess

Everything and nothing less

(v1)

Lying in my baby’s bed, got a smile from ear to ear

Late last night she picked me up, that’s how I landed here

Sugar, spice and all things nice, that’s how they say she’s made

Me, I’m busting at the seams and all my ends are frayed

(v2)

Now I lay me down to sleep, my baby by my side

Couldn’t find the words to speak no matter how I tried

Her sweet caress her tender kiss, there’s nothing I want more

Words escape when I’m with the one that I adore

(c1)

Tell us how you feel

Fantasy come real

This is exactly how I feel

what once was fantasy is real

(v3)

Puppy love may come and go but our love will persist

Warm and fuzzy is what I give that’s why she can’t resist

Though I know the love we have between us is all wrong

I can’t stop, it just feels too good to leave alone

(c2)

Tell us what you mean

Play become obscene

This is exactly what I mean

(v1)

You’ve got a smile so bright

It sets the world alight

And everything that you do

Makes me fall a little bit more in love with you

Ooooh, my sweat pea

(v2)

I’m wrapped up in your charms

Holding you in my arms

Now everybody knows

I’m loving you from your head down to your toes

Oh, my sweet pea

(v3)

So when we say goodnight

And we turn out the light

I know just where I’ll be

Snuggled up with my baby next to me

Ooohwee, my sweat pea

(v1)

If I wrapped you up in a fairy tale

Where noble hearts and good deeds prevail

What would you do? What would you say?

Or would you just get in the way?

(v2)

If we traded places for just ones day

Took the greed and selfishness away

What would you think? How would you feel?

Would the wounds finally start to heal?

(pc1)

We’re no good

We’re no good without you

We’re no good without humility

All my life I wonder where you are, all my life I wish upon a star

I wish I may, wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight

Wishing on a star, I wonder where you are

Raise a glass to celebrate

This amazing twist of fate

Joyful moments spent with friends

Smiles extend from ear to ear

We’ve patiently waited all year

Now summertime has come again

(c1)

Clumsy aerobatics

A butterfly in flight

Arriving indirectly

To our great delight

(v2)

Briefly hiding from the sun

Our skin is slightly overdone

Grateful for a day so long

Sitting barefoot on the grass

Taking silly photographs

Sharing a guitar and song

(c2)

Floating on the ocean

Far from gravity

Removed from all sensation

Except tranquility

(b1)

I’ve been waiting such a long time

Hardly made it through the year

Finally playing in the sunshine

And all my friends are here

(v3)

Daytime changes its attire

As sparks rise from the crackling fire

Like the stars we wish upon

The painted sky yields to twilight

As the lyrics to this song I write

And the universe spins on

(c3)

The Milky Way so brilliant

On this moonless night

Awestruck travelers sharing

An interstellar flight

(c4)

The melody of laughter

The harmony of love

The rhythm of the moment

And a verse to share thereof

(c5)

I would hold onto this moment

Stop the world right here

No design more perfect

No company more dear

(v1)

When grace and faith had been broken

Everything I knew torn away

She appeared and I caught myself hoping

Oh Lord, one more day

(v2)

In her laugh my heart became lighter

By her touch the child in me played

And I thought as she held my hand tighter

Oh Lord, one more day

(v3)

The days were sweet intoxication

The nights were a passion inflamed

And I wished on my newfound elation

Oh Lord, one more day

(c1)

Darling you were heaven tonight

Darling you were heaven when you turned out the light

Darling you were heaven as I held you so tight in my arms

Darling you were heaven tonight

(v4)

But the road arrives with the evening

And it leads me so far away

So I wish once more as I’m leaving

Oh lord, one more day

(v5)

As my jet cuts across the horizon

And the ground beneath falls away

Once again I become the island

Oh lord, one more day

(c2)

God I miss my heaven tonight

God I miss my heaven as I turn out the light

God I miss my heaven and holding her tight in my arms

God I miss my heaven tonight

(v6)

Then as everything appeared hopeless

And all my vision turned grey

There at once you came into focus

Oh Lord, one more day

(c3)

Girl you’ll be my heaven tonight

Girl you’ll be my heaven when you turn out the light

Girl you’ll be my heaven when you hold me so tight in your arms

Girl you’ll be my heaven … tonight

When you look in the mirror

And you find another man

You find another man that looks like me

I pray that he makes you

As proud as I am

As proud of the man that looks like me

And changes that arise

I still see you

I can die happy, for me and for you

That you remain curious, in your heart be a child

That you do what you love, your spirit remain wild

Pay no regard, and make your own way

God’s got a strange sense of humor

Headache becomes a brain tumor

Sworn testimony from a rumor

God’s got a strange sense of humor

Out of the gate at the starting gun

An early lead and you’re on the run

The prize in sight shining like the sun

You hit the wall before it’s won

Headache becomes a brain tumor

Sworn testimony from a rumor

God’s got a strange sense of humor

(c2)

Or how the story ends

This truth stands in spite of the outcome

You are my friend

I Don’t Care
